Passage: 2 Peter 3:12-18.

2Pe 3:12-18" Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

1. What is growth?  It has a double aspect > Human and Divine.
a. On the human side it is an increase of capacity to receive and appropriate.

b. On the Divine side, it is an increase of supply, the Holy Spirit being in complete possession of us.

In all growth there is a constant meeting of human needs and Divine supply.

We are all always in need of many things and wonderfully does the Heavenly Father supply our needs. All good things come from God.

2. Law of growth.  If we desire to grow either physically or spiritually, we must abide by certain laws of growth.

The extent of our growth either Spiritually or physically depends upon our condition of health. To grow we must be healthy.

3. Hindrances to growth.

a. The greatest is disease. The diseased will not thrive, and the soul that is diseased certainly shall not grow. " The disease of the soul is sin."

b. Scarcity of nourishment. The underfed will never grow.

To grow physically you must have proper food. To grow spiritually you must have proper food for your soul.

Illustration.   First division at Cantigny France was ordered to advance, had everything in readiness, infantry, artillery, ammunition and etc. The ration wagons were destroyed enroute to the division which left the entire division without food, the advance was delayed. We could not move as we had no food.

c. Lack of activity.
Spiritual exercise is as necessary to growth of the soul as physical exercise is to the body.

4. Are you thriving this morning spiritually ? If not what is your hinderance, let God have His way and He will straighten out all wrongs and you can have a healthy thriving soul, all on fire for God and Souls.
